Book excerpt: This report presents a cost analysis of Vinyl Chloride production from acetylene and hydrochloric acid. The process examined is a typical acetylene hydrochlorination process. In this process, anhydrous hydrogen chloride is reacted in vapor phase with acetylene over a mercuric chloride catalyst producing Vinyl Chloride. This report was developed based essentially on the following reference(s): (1) "Chlorinated Hydrocarbons", Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, 7th edition (2) "Vinyl Chloride", Acetylene-Based Chemicals from Coal and Other Natural Resources Keywords: Chloroethene, 1,2-Dichloroethane, Hydrochlorination
