Book excerpt: This report presents a cost analysis of Hydrogen production from natural gas. The process examined is a typical partial oxidation process. In this process, natural gas passes through a thermal partial oxidation, generating carbon monoxide and hydrogen at ratios of approximately 2:1. In order to increase hydrogen output, the partial oxidation product is sent to a gas shift converter, to which steam is added to react with carbon monoxide, generating carbon dioxide and more hydrogen. Finally, the gaseous stream is purified in a pressure swing adsorber (PSA) and high-purity hydrogen is obtained. This report was developed based essentially on the following reference(s): "Hydrogen", Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, 5th edition Keywords: H2, NG, POX, Catalytic Partial Oxidation, Texaco, Shell
