Book excerpt: Although distributional data for Kentucky's unionid fauna are abundant, ecological data are sparse. A study of a unionid community in the Licking River, at Moores Ferry, Kentucky was undertaken. The main objectives of this study were to determine species composition of the bed, to determine both total density and density of each species, to determine the dominant species of the bed and each of sampling plot, and by utilizing size frequency distribution to assess the status of the unionid bed. Both unionid and Corbicula fluminea data were collected and analyzed in order to determine the status of unionids and to compare them with the entire bivalve community.
