Book excerpt: Abstract: This book is a practical guide on how to improve the communication and cultural awareness among culturally different people. Three stages of multicultural development are outlined (awareness, knowledge, and skill). Methods for counselors to adapt and adjust to new cultures are demonstrated by the use of roleplaying techniques with simulation exercises and strategies to help trainees identify and overcome culturally learned stereotypes. Behavior modification techniques, four dimensions of multicultural skills training, and ways to develop a multicultural identity are discussed.
