Book excerpt: Report of a test program designed to evaluate the potential of the destabilization/filtration process for treatment of produced water. The study develops and optimizes the process of emulsion destabilization by multivalent inorganic cations, followed by transfer of oil onto an inert filter; develops and optimizes a method of oil recovery and filter media regeneration; and assesses the technical and economic feasibility of treating wellhead emulsions from in-situ bitumen/heavy oil recovery operations using the developed methods. A literature review was undertaken of both published and unpublished information.
